PANEGYRIC SECTIONS IN BAKI’S QASIDAS AND OTTOMAN SOCIOLOGY

Zülküf KILIÇ 1

Art is not apart from the era in which it lives. In Bâki’s qasidas, we can see Ottoman Empire so clearly as a power which asserted itself in the east, in the west and in seas in the 16th century. It is known that he had good relations with the leading staff of Ottoman Empire, and he was one of the greatest poets of his period. In his poetry, it is clearly seen that the expansion of the borders of Ottoman Empire, the identity of the state as an artist, the military and the economic power of the state, the words related to the military profession, the wars which always resulted in victory are seen clearly. Furthermore, the heroes who treated as topic in figures of speech were selected among Iranian heroes, instead of Turkish heroes. It is important in that it shows the influence of the foreign cultures on Turkish culture of that time.
